About the Role:
ITS is seeking a senior AWS SME to support and enhance its enterprise AWS Organization built on AWS Control Tower. This role will serve as a technical leader for cloud architecture, governance, troubleshooting, security, mentoring, and multi-agency AWS initiatives while helping ITS build its internal Cloud Center of Excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the State's AWS Organization and Control Tower environment
- Design and review secure, scalable AWS architectures
- Lead cloud migration and implementation initiatives
- Troubleshoot complex AWS networking, connectivity, and infrastructure issues
- Support multi-account AWS governance and security controls
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions
- Collaborate with AWS and third-party vendors
- Develop cloud standards, documentation, and operational playbooks
- Mentor and train internal staff on AWS best practices
- Support compliance, security, and cloud governance initiatives
- Conduct architecture reviews and technical assessments
Required Skills:
- Deep expertise with AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, and CloudFormation
- Experience managing complex multi-account AWS environments
- AWS Control Tower and Landing Zone experience
- Strong AWS networking and connectivity troubleshooting skills
- Infrastructure as Code experience (CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK)
- CI/CD pipeline implementation experience
- AWS security and governance expertise
- Experience with IAM, SCPs, encryption, and network segmentation
- Containerization experience (Docker, ECS, EKS)
- Serverless architecture experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills across compute, storage, and networking layers
- Experience mentoring technical teams and providing knowledge transfer
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
- Government or highly regulated industry experience
- HIPAA, CJIS, or IRS 1075 compliance experience
- ITIL, PMP, Agile, or governance framework experience
- Hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud experience
- Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting experience
Ideal Candidate:
This is not a cloud administrator role. The ideal candidate is a senior AWS Architect or Cloud SME who has led enterprise-scale AWS environments, implemented governance and security frameworks, supported multi-account cloud architectures, and can serve as both a technical advisor and mentor to internal teams.
