Overview:
- The Senior Windows Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure, high-performing Windows and hybrid cloud infrastructure to support Maryland Benefits operations. This role involves system engineering, automation, cloud integration, and collaboration across development, security, and operations teams to ensure platform stability, scalability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Windows Server infrastructure including configuration, patching, and performance optimization.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies (GPO) in hybrid on-prem and Azure AD environments.
- Implement and manage Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) for high availability of mission-critical systems.
- Configure and support IIS web servers, troubleshoot application performance and deployment issues in production and staging environments.
- Automate system provisioning, patching, and monitoring tasks using PowerShell and Jenkins pipelines.
- Integrate Windows systems with Azure services, optimizing authentication and security using Azure AD Connect and conditional access policies.
- Perform patch management and compliance reporting using WSUS and Tanium; remediate vulnerabilities using Wiz and other security tools.
- Design, build, and support secure cloud platforms, ensuring adherence to security best practices and compliance frameworks.
- Lead ECS to EKS migrations, and develop CI/CD automation pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery.
- Research and evaluate new technologies for potential adoption and Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives (e.g., AI automation, Jenkins-Tanium integration).
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 platform support, troubleshooting Windows OS, networking, and middleware issues.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Boot for backend integrations.
- Conduct system analysis, prepare documentation, and recommend architectural improvements for performance and scalability.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in Windows system engineering, administration, and automation.
- Strong experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and IIS in enterprise or government environments.
- Hands-on expertise with Azure, AWS, and hybrid cloud integrations.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation frameworks (Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines).
- Experience with container orchestration (ECS/EKS) and cloud-native workloads.
- Working knowledge of security tools such as Tanium, Wiz, and vulnerability management processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in Agile or DevOps environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or similar certification.
- Experience with Spring Boot, RESTful API development, and backend integration.
- Prior experience supporting State or Federal IT environments (e.g., MDTHINK, HHS systems).
- Familiarity with CI/CD automation, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
