Position Summary The (Senior) Network Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for supporting and administering the LAN & WAN infrastructure (Cisco, Checkpoint, etc.) within the corporate office, two co-located data centers, and the AWS cloud.
This position also provides network technical support for projects and operational processes as required to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of the Bank’s technology.
This role works closely with all technology teams and will partner with the Principal Network Engineer to ensure day-to-day support of the network environment is accomplished effectively.
This role requires a self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills who exercises independent judgment while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion.
Responsibilities:
* This role will be focused on day-to-day tasks an average of 80% of the time and project work 20% of the time with fluctuations based on business needs.
* Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service, (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology is expected.
* Accountable for the daily administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of the LAN & WAN environment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within the physical office, two co-located data centers and the AWS cloud.
* Monitor the day-to-day work requests and incident (break/fix) trouble tickets. JOB OPPORTUNITY Classification: Public
* Responsible for administering the tools and services required to effectively manage and monitor the data and voice communication systems.
* Partner with User Support (help desk) to handle escalated calls and provide training for tasks that may be appropriately handled at the User Support level.
* Participate in technology projects assuming the role of subject matter expert for network-related aspects of the project.
* Ensure detailed inventories of network equipment are accurate.
* Participate in regularly scheduled disaster recovery exercises and on-site support at the Bank’s Westborough and Waltham, MA locations.
* Provide 24×7 on-call support when necessary and carry a bank-issued phone to respond to off-hours support issues.
* The senior title will manage vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing, and renewal processes for the networking environment, equipment, and applications.
* Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge/Skills
* Proven network maintenance (CISCO routers, switches, and telecom equipment; LAN & WAN) and support background.
* Demonstrated skill building and supporting network infrastructure in AWS in a professional setting (not a course or practice environment) is strongly preferred. Required for Senior title.
* Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
* Cogent technical documentation skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor with minimal supervision.
* A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility.
* Must have excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within technical and non-technical teams, adapting communication and presentation style for the intended audience.
* Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in support of an agile and DevOps methodology helpful, but not required.
* Familiarity of the AWS cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation. ? Senior title must be able to effectively create technical solutions from business requirements. Education
* B.S. degree with a Computer Science related curriculum or equivalent experience is required. Experience
* 3-5 years of network administration, configuration and support skills preferably in a Cisco environment. Senior title must have demonstrated abilities supporting network environments in the AWS cloud.
* 3-5 years of firewall administration, preferably in a Checkpoint environment.
* Exposure to banking, financial services or other highly regulated environment is helpful
