Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior DevOps and Mainframe Engineer to join State Street’s Platform Engineering department. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust DevOps platform to support developers building applications for the mainframe environment. You will contribute to the design and integration of a comprehensive DevOps toolchain encompassing issue tracking, IDE, source code management, CI/CD, test automation, and code analysis. Additionally, you will ensure the smooth operation of the existing legacy DevOps toolchain throughout the migration project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement a DevOps platform tailored for mainframe application development needs.
- Design and integrate a DevOps toolchain including issue tracking systems, IDEs, source code management tools, CI/CD pipelines, test automation frameworks, and code analysis tools.
- Maintain and enhance the existing legacy DevOps toolchain based on IBM Engineering Workflow Management (RTC) during the migration project.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the software lifecycle, with specialized knowledge in SCM, build management, release management, and deployment automation.
- Write automation scripts using Python, Java, Shell scripting, Rexx, JCL, Ant, Ansible, and other relevant technologies to automate integration processes and develop custom extensions.
- Communicate effectively and present complex technical concepts to management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with technical and business teams to deliver projects on time and according to specifications.
- Utilize hybrid remote telecommuting options as per company policies.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role involving DevOps, mainframe systems, automation, and CI/CD technologies.
Special Skills, Knowledge, or Certifications Required:
- Experience with mainframe environments, including Unix and MVS file systems, mainframe COBOL and PL1 compilers/binders, and DB2 databases.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools such as GitHub, Harness, Jenkins, and Artifactory.
- Proficiency in Java, Python, and various scripting languages for automation tasks.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of IBM Developer for z, Rational Team Concert (RTC), Dependency Based Build (DBB), Wazi Deploy, BMC DevX Code Pipeline, UCD, ISPW, and Topaz.
- Experience with IBM HTTP Server and Websphere Liberty configuration and administration.
- Familiarity with Eclipse or VSCode with the ability to develop plugins or extensions if required.
