Job Description

Job Title – Oracle Database DBA – Oracle EBS Data Migration and Archiving
Location: Remote
Experience: 9+

USC, GC

On oracle EBS- – The panellist clarified that they are not looking for a profile that is purely focused on Oracle EBS DBA responsibilities. They need someone who has strong Oracle EBS Functional experience as well, along with the technical/DBA knowledge. So, the ideal candidate should have a combination of Oracle EBS Functional and DBA expertise, rather than being only an EBS DBA.

 Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator for a short-term engagement supporting the Oracle database underlying a client’s Oracle E-Business Suite environment.

The primary focus of this role will be to plan and execute database-level data migration and archival activities while ensuring data integrity, performance, security, recoverability, and minimal disruption to business operations.

This is not an Oracle EBS Applications DBA role. However, the consultant should have sufficient familiarity with the Oracle EBS data model and database architecture to safely support migration, archival, reconciliation, and performance-related activities involving Oracle EBS data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support the Oracle databases underlying the client’s Oracle EBS environment.
  • Assess the current database environment, data volumes, growth trends, storage utilization, and performance constraints.
  • Work with application, functional, infrastructure, and business teams to define the scope and approach for data migration and archival.
  • Develop and execute data migration and archival plans for historical Oracle EBS data.
  • Identify data dependencies, referential relationships, retention requirements, and downstream reporting needs before archiving or migrating data.
  • Extract, transform, load, move, archive, or purge data using approved Oracle database utilities, scripts, and tools.
  • Develop and optimize SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, scripts, and data-processing routines required for migration and archival activities.
  • Validate migrated and archived data for completeness, accuracy, referential integrity, and reconciliation against source systems.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, restore-point creation, and rollback planning before migration or archival activities.
  • Support test runs, dress rehearsals, production migrations, cutover activities, and post-migration validation.
  • Monitor and tune database performance during high-volume data extraction, migration, archival, and purge operations.
  • Optimize large-table operations using partitioning, indexing, parallel processing, bulk operations, and appropriate Oracle database utilities.
  • Manage database storage, tablespaces, data files, archive logs, undo, temporary space, and capacity requirements.
  • Troubleshoot database errors, failed jobs, locking, blocking, long-running queries, space issues, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Support RMAN backup and recovery activities and verify that appropriate recovery procedures are in place.
  • Work with Oracle Data Pump, SQL*Loader, external tables, database links, materialized views, or other relevant Oracle data-movement technologies.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of repeatable archival and purge processes.
  • Ensure that data archival and migration activities comply with the client’s data-retention, security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation covering migration procedures, archival logic, validation results, rollback plans, database changes, and operational support procedures.
  • Coordinate with Oracle EBS functional and technical teams to understand table relationships, open transactions, interface dependencies, and reporting impacts.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and handover documentation to the client’s internal DBA and support teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle Database Administrator.
  • Strong experience administering Oracle databases supporting enterprise applications.
  • Experience working with Oracle databases underlying Oracle E-Business Suite environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Database 12c, 19c, or comparable enterprise Oracle database versions.
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale data migration, data archival, data purge, or database consolidation initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and PL/SQL development, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Oracle Data Pump Export and Import, SQL*Loader, external tables, database links, and other data-movement utilities.
  • Experience handling large database tables and high-volume batch-processing activities.
  • Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, RMAN, restore points, and rollback planning.
  • Experience with database performance diagnostics and tools such as AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Trace, TKPROF, and execution-plan analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of indexing, partitioning, statistics management, parallel execution, and SQL optimization.
  • Experience managing tablespaces, data files, archive logs, undo, temporary space, storage growth, and database capacity.
  • Strong understanding of referential integrity, data reconciliation, and data-validation techniques.
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments and developing shell scripts for database automation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues independently.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a short-duration, milestone-driven engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle EBS database schemas, standard tables, interface tables, concurrent-processing data, and historical transaction data.
  • Familiarity with Oracle EBS modules such as Financials, Procurement, Order Management, Inventory, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain.
  • Experience designing archival strategies for Oracle EBS or other large ERP systems.
  • Experience with Oracle partitioning and partition-based archival or purge strategies.
  • Experience with Oracle Advanced Compression or other database storage-optimization techniques.
  • Experience migrating data to archival databases, reporting databases, data warehouses, data lakes, or lower-cost storage platforms.
  • Familiarity with data-retention, privacy, audit, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager or comparable database-monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, or high-availability environments.
  • Experience supporting database upgrades, cloud migrations, or platform-modernization programs.

Key Deliverables

The consultant will be expected to deliver some or all of the following during the 2–3-month engagement:

  • Current-state database and data-volume assessment.
  • Data migration and archival strategy.
  • Identification of candidate tables and data sets for migration, archival, or purge.
  • Data-dependency and referential-integrity analysis.
  • Detailed migration, archival, validation, and rollback plan.
  • SQL, PL/SQL, shell scripts, and database jobs required for execution.
  • Test migration or archival execution and documented results.
  • Production migration or archival support.
  • Source-to-target data reconciliation and validation reports.
  • Database performance and capacity recommendations.
  • Operational documentation and knowledge-transfer materials.

Success Criteria

  • Historical data is migrated or archived accurately and securely.
  • Data integrity and referential relationships are maintained.
  • Required historical information remains accessible for reporting, audit, and compliance purposes.
  • Database storage and performance objectives are achieved.
  • Production disruption is minimized.
  • Backup, recovery, and rollback procedures are successfully validated.
  • Migration and archival processes are fully documented and handed over to the client team.

Work Schedule

The consultant should be available during agreed client business hours and may be required to support planned evening or weekend activities for test execution, production cutover, migration, archival, or post-implementation validation.
