Our client in the Greater Philadelphia area is seeking a Senior MySQL Database Administrator to own and optimize critical data environments. In this role, you will ensure performance, reliability, and security of data systems while supporting scalable, data-driven operations.

 

Position Description

• Own lifecycle of relational database environments across dev–prod
• Ensure uptime, performance, resiliency, and data protection
• Monitor systems; prevent, detect, and resolve issues proactively
• Manage backups, recovery, upgrades, and migrations with minimal disruption
• Optimize queries, schemas, and indexing for efficiency at scale
• Support high-availability and replication architectures
• Enforce access control, encryption, and audit readiness
• Partner with engineering on schema design, ETL, and data workflows
• Contribute to capacity planning and infrastructure decisions

 

Required Skills

• 5+ years production database administration (large-scale datasets)
• Strong SQL (complex queries, procedures, indexing, partitioning)
• Deep knowledge of storage engines, transactions, and concurrency
• Experience with replication, clustering, and failover strategies
• Backup/recovery expertise and disaster recovery execution
• Performance tuning (query analysis, configuration optimization)
• Familiarity with monitoring/alerting tools and metrics (latency, uptime)
• Scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash)
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and incident response skills
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations

 

Bonus Skills

• Experience with distributed or clustered database frameworks
• Exposure to observability platforms and performance dashboards
• Compliance/security standards familiarity (data protection, audits)
• Data pipeline / ETL support experience
• Prior mentoring or technical leadership
• Relevant database certifications
