Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer (L3) with strong expertise in VMware (60%) and Hyper-V (40%) to support enterprise virtualization infrastructure in Pleasanton, CA. The ideal candidate will manage VMware and Hyper-V environments, lead infrastructure and migration projects, troubleshoot complex virtualization issues, optimize system performance, and serve as the L3 escalation point. The role requires hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, Hyper-V, Windows Server, storage technologies, and PowerShell.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support VMware ESXi, vCenter, and Hyper-V environments.

• Perform VMware ESXi/vCenter upgrades and Hyper-V infrastructure management.

• Configure and manage HA, DRS, VMware Clusters, Resource Pools, and Hyper-V Failover Clusters.

• Execute VM migrations using vMotion, Storage vMotion, Live Migration, and P2V tools.

• Manage VM provisioning, snapshots, VMware Tools, CPU/Memory upgrades, and recovery using Veeam.

• Administer SAN storage, datastores, LUN provisioning, and storage performance.

• Troubleshoot complex virtualization, storage, networking, and cluster issues.

• Lead infrastructure migration projects and maintain migration documentation/runbooks.

• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell.

• Work closely with clients, project managers, and infrastructure teams while mentoring junior engineers.

Must-Have Skills

• 7+ years of VMware and Windows Infrastructure Administration.

• Strong VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter administration (60% expertise).

• Hands-on Microsoft Hyper-V administration (40% expertise).

• VMware HA, DRS, Clusters, Resource Pools, and Lifecycle Manager.

• Hyper-V Failover Clustering, Live Migration, Storage Live Migration, and CAU.

• Windows Server Administration.

• VM migration experience (vMotion, P2V, Hyper-V migrations).

• SAN Storage, Datastores, LUN Provisioning, and Veeam Backup & Recovery.

• PowerShell scripting and automation.

• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and L3 support experience.

• Client-facing communication and infrastructure migration experience.
