Sr. Network EngineerÂ
Client :Â Northwestern County PUD
Position Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing network infrastructure to ensure performance, reliability, and security. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, configuration, lifecycle management of network systems, and collaboration with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, service-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities
·                     Monitor network performance using industry-standard tools and provide recommendations based on analysis.
- Maintain and support network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
- Perform preventive maintenance and lifecycle management of network hardware and software.
- Configure and deploy network equipment under established standards.
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues; implement minor upgrades and changes as needed.
- Partner with security, systems, and application teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Support and enhance network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and data protection systems.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, technical procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Assist with and execute disaster recovery processes as required.
- Participate in on-call rotation to support critical network incidents after hours.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices in all work activities.

- Participate in after-hours support during emergency situations or critical project activities.
- Manage shifting priorities and support multiple concurrent initiatives. Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in network engineering or ISP environments, including Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Passive Optical Network (PON) architectures.
- In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN, VPN, and network security technologies (IPSec, SSL, firewalls).
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking protocols and technologies, including:
o        MPLS, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, VLANs (802.1Q)
- Multicast, VRF/VRF-lite, QoS, NAT, IPv4/IPv6
- Hands-on experience with Layer 3 networking protocols and routing technologies.
- Experience with major networking vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia.
- Familiarity with cloud networking and connectivity solutions, including:
o        AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, Google Cloud Interconnect
- Working knowledge of network security frameworks and best practices (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
- Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds, Datadog, Nagios, and Wireshark.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network and connectivity issues, including latency and bandwidth challenges.
- Experience with certificates and PKI (e.g., 802.1x, SSL inspection/offloading).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and drive tasks to completion.
- Availability to respond to on-call incidents within defined timeframes. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in network support or engineering roles.
- CCNA certification preferred; progress toward or completion of CCNP strongly desired.
- Experience working with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and service providers.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (if role involves travel). Scope & Impact
