Job Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Informix DBA to join their engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in managing, administering, and optimizing Informix databases in a high-performance environment. As a Senior Informix DBA, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of our Informix database systems while providing leadership in database management and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Administration:

• Configure, and maintain Informix database systems.

• Manage day-to-day operations, including backups, restores, and troubleshooting.

• Perform routine database performance tuning and optimization to ensure high availability and performance.

• Monitor and maintain database health, ensuring high uptime and minimal disruption.

2. Performance Tuning and Optimization:

• Analyze and resolve complex database performance issues, including indexing, queries, and locking.

• Work with development teams to optimize queries and database design for performance.

• Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

3. Database Security:

• Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures.

• Manage user access, roles, and permissions to ensure proper database security and compliance.

• Regularly monitor and audit database security practices.

4. Backup and Recovery:

• Design and implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.

• Perform regular testing of backup and recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.

• Provide guidance for data replication, high availability, and fault tolerance configurations.

5. Upgrades and Patches:

• Plan and execute Informix database upgrades and patching.

• Ensure compatibility and stability after updates and apply fixes as needed.

6. Capacity Planning:

• Analyze and forecast database storage and capacity needs.

• Implement proactive measures to ensure sufficient database resources as business needs grow.

7. Documentation and Reporting:

• Create and maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and recovery plans.

• Prepare regular reports on database performance, health, and security status.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

• 10+ years of experience as a DBA, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience working specifically with Informix databases (IDS).

• Experience with database migrations, upgrades, and multi-platform database environments.

• Strong experience with database security, backup, and recovery best practices.

• Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and advanced database administration tasks.

• Expertise in Informix database architecture, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

• Advanced knowledge of SQL, and Informix SQL extensions.

• Familiarity with database monitoring tools and diagnostic utilities.

• Knowledge of high-availability solutions such as Informix High Availability Data Replication (HDR).

Good to have:

• Experience with scripting languages (Shell, Python, or similar) for automation and task management.
