Project Overview
The Metropolitan Council is seeking a full-time UX Designer to support a high-visibility Fare Collection System Upgrade initiative. This project supports Metro Transit’s core business operations and includes the design of public-facing digital experiences and complex back-office systems.
The UX Designer will work in an Agile environment alongside product owners, developers, and stakeholders to deliver accessible, intuitive, and user-centered digital solutions within tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead user research activities, including interviews and usability testing, to inform design decisions.
· Conduct 8–10 user interviews and 2–3 usability testing sessions per sprint.
· Design intuitive, accessible interfaces and workflows across digital platforms.
· Develop low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
· Design 20+ key interface screens and workflows for core application modules.
· Ensure designs comply with WCAG 2.1 AA, brand standards, and universal design principles.
· Collaborate closely with product owners and developers in an Agile environment (daily standups, sprint reviews).
· Audit and update existing interfaces for brand consistency and inclusive design.
· Present bi-weekly design reviews to stakeholders and provide annotated handoff documentation.
· Produce style guides, component libraries, and detailed design documentation.
· Provide knowledge transfer and support continuous improvement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
· 5+ years of UX design experience for web-based applications
· 4+ years designing WCAG 2.1 AA compliant interfaces
· 5+ years creating wireframes, prototypes, and mockups
· 3+ years in information architecture and interaction design
· 2+ years UX experience in an Agile development environment
Desired Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or related field
· Strong background in accessibility and inclusive design
· User research, persona creation, and usability testing expertise
· Data-driven design and analytics experience
· Responsive and adaptive design skills
· Strong visual/UI design and design systems knowledge
· Familiarity with mobile app UX for ticketing or payment systems
· Knowledge of transit systems, fare structures, and validation devices
· Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Blazor
· Experience with Figma
· Strong stakeholder communication and presentation skills
· Critical thinking, creativity, and user empathy
· UX certifications or accessibility/Agile training preferred
