Job Description:
A Senior Tomcat Engineer, often titled as a Senior Systems Operations Engineer or Middleware Engineer, focuses on designing, installing, configuring, and tuning Apache Tomcat in complex, clustered production environments, typically within Linux infrastructures. They ensure high availability, security, and performance optimization (e.g., memory tuning, JVM configuration).
Key Responsibilities and Skills
Administration & Maintenance: Managing large-scale Apache Tomcat installations, including upgrades, patching, and configuration management (e.g., MBean attributes).
Performance Tuning: Optimizing JVM performance, thread pools, and connector settings to maintain service levels. Security: Conducting vulnerability management, regular security scans, and implementing hardened configurations. Troubleshooting: Analyzing complex service level issues and identifying root causes in production environments. Infrastructure Collaboration: Working with DevOps teams to integrate Tomcat with NGINX, Apache HTTPd, or load balancers.
Automation: Using scripting for deployments and routine maintenance.
