Position: Sr. Network Engineer
Location: Frederick, MD (Onsite) – Need locals or Nearby
Duration: 6+ months contract
Rate: $50/hr on C2C
Job Description:
Job Summary:
- Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to lead the design| implementation| and optimization of enterprise-wide network infrastructure.
- This role is critical to ensuring the performance| security| and scalability of IT environment.
- The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of hands-on experience in network engineering| with a strong background in infrastructure| cloud integration| and security protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design| deploy| and maintain complex LAN| WAN| WLAN| and cloud-based network solutions.
- Configure and support network equipment including routers| switches| firewalls| load balancers| VPNs| and proxy servers.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal speed| reliability| and uptime.
- Lead infrastructure upgrades| including service packs| patches| and security configurations.
- Implement and maintain network security protocols to protect data and systems.
- Collaborate with IT leadership and cross-functional teams to align network architecture with business goals.
- Provide Level 23 support and serve as an escalation point for network-related issues.
- Document network configurations| changes| and procedures for compliance and operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to strategic planning and technology roadmaps.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science| Engineering| or related field.
- 10 years of experience in network engineering and infrastructure management.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCPIP| BGP| OSPF| IPSEC| QoS).Hands-on experience with Cisco IOS| Juniper| Palo Alto| and other enterprise-grade systems.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Experience with cloud networking (Azure| AWS) and hybrid environments.
- Professional certifications such as CCNP| CCIE| or CISSP are highly preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with SD-WAN| MPLS| VLANs| and VoIP.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and enterprise SaaS platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Top 3 Required Skills:
- Enterprise Network Design & Engineering : Strong hands-on experience designing and supporting LAN, WAN, WLAN, and cloud/hybrid networks at enterprise scale.
- Advanced Networking Protocols & Security : Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, IPSEC, QoS, along with implementation of network security protocols.
- Network Infrastructure & Vendor Technologies ; Hands-on expertise with Cisco IOS, Juniper, Palo Alto, and enterprise network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers)
Top 3 Preferred Skills:
- Cloud & Hybrid Networking :Experience with AWS and/or Azure networking, including hybrid cloud integration.
- Advanced Network Architectures : Exposure to SD-WAN, MPLS, VLANs, VoIP, and modern enterprise network designs.
- Leadership & Operational Excellence : Ability to mentor junior engineers, provide Level 2/3 escalation support, and contribute to technology roadmaps and strategic planning.
Years of Experience:
- Required: Enterprise networking (LAN/WAN/WLAN), routing & security protocols, Cisco/Juniper/Palo Alto
- Preferred: Cloud networking (AWS/Azure), SD WAN/MPLS/VoIP, leadership & mentoring
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (CS/Engineering or related)
- Experience: 10+ years
Education: At least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related field is required.
