Job Title: Senior Business Intelligence Consultant – Power BI & Data Integration
Location: West Sacramento, CA (Hybrid)

Job Description:
The CalPERS Investment Operations (IO) unit is seeking a full-time experienced Senior Business Intelligence Consultant to provide enhanced management reporting development and support services. The consultant will support and enhance the CalPERS CEM Business Intelligence (BI) solution using Power BI, Power Apps, and related data integration technologies.
The consultant will play a lead role in the design, development, and implementation of intuitive reports, dashboards, and data integration pipelines that support business decision-making across the Investment Office. Responsibilities include full-cycle BI report development, predictive analysis, ETL processing, system support, and knowledge transfer to CalPERS staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1 – Power BI/Power Apps Reporting and Dashboard Development
- Work directly with CalPERS business stakeholders to gather, interpret, and validate reporting requirements
- Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI
- Build data collection forms and visualizations to support analysis of operational expenses
- Deliver projection and predictive analytics using intuitive and informative visualizations
2 – Data Integration and Dashboard Support
- Develop and enhance ETL pipelines and data integration processes (primarily using Oracle, ODI, or similar tools)
- Automate data quality checks, corrections, and data loading processes
- Maintain a reliable and self-healing overnight data preparation infrastructure
- Support dashboarding integration with reporting services in a scalable BI architecture
- Troubleshoot and fulfill software change requests and provide operational support
3 – Knowledge Transfer
- Conduct regular knowledge-sharing sessions with state staff
- Ensure documentation of business processes, test cases, status updates, and deployment artifacts
- Collaborate with the contract manager to archive and share all work products in shared repositories
Minimum Qualifications & Evaluation Criteria:
- At least 5 years of experience in Power BI report development, issue diagnosis, and resolution
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in SQL development for complex queries and analytics
- Experience in at least two successful BI or analytics projects, one with a budget of $1M+
- Minimum of 5 years in electronic data processing systems study, design, and programming
- At least 3 years in a lead capacity on BI projects involving business process automation
- 3+ years’ experience in metadata modeling including hierarchies, data security rules, and user-friendly data dictionaries
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in ETL/data integration using tools like Oracle Data Integrator or equivalent
- Experience in public pension, investment, or financial services domains is required. At least 5 years’ experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong understanding of BI solution architecture and data warehouse design
- Experience with predictive analytics and projection modeling
- Familiarity with OBIEE and Oracle BI stack is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment
