Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Oracle DBA with strong MySQL skills and proven expertise in NLs character set upgrades. This role is crucial for supporting a mission-critical upgrade initiative involving character set transformation across Oracle and MySQL databases, ensuring data integrity and application compatibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Oracle database upgrades, focusing on NLs character set conversion (e.g., AL32UTF8 migration).
- Execute end-to-end MySQL database upgrades and charset handling as needed.
- Assess current database schemas, dependencies, and impact of character set changes.
- Create and validate database backup/recovery plans before upgrade execution.
- Design and run test upgrade environments to validate charset impact and performance.
- Work closely with application teams to assess and test application behavior post-upgrade.
- Monitor and troubleshoot post-upgrade performance issues.
- Develop scripts for automation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Document the upgrade process and provide knowledge transfer to operational teams.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA.
- Solid MySQL administration experience (minimum 3 years).
- Proven expertise in Oracle NLs character set upgrades (especially to AL32UTF8).
- Experience with DMU (Database Migration Assistant for Unicode) and/or manual upgrade paths.
- Strong knowledge of backup/recovery (RMAN), performance tuning, and database patching.
- Scripting skills (Shell/Perl/Python).
- Good understanding of Unicode, collation, and character encoding issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) is a plus.
- Experience with multi-region or global database deployments.
- Familiarity with tools like Data Pump, GoldenGate (for replication during migration), etc.
- Experience in cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) is an advantage.
