The Need: Policy makers increasingly scrutinize the cultural, societal, technological and economic impact Netflix and other digital services have. Thus, there is a need for augmenting India Policy team’s strength to enable achievement of our goals towards creating a conducive policy ecosystem for business growth; and mitigating economic-technological-cultural risks (amongst others) that our business may face- today and in the future.
The Opportunity: The Netflix Legal and Public Policy team is a highly talented and experienced group of lawyers and public policy experts who work in close partnership with business counterparts to advance the strategic business goals of the company. The team is perceived within the company as solutions-oriented thought-partner, that immensely contributes to the growth of business in the region- while enabling a favourable policy ecosytem for Netflix, opening doors for new opportunities and mitigating unwarranted risks.
The Public Policy team is seeking a Manager, Public Policy. The Manager will be a key member of the India/South Asia Public Policy team, both supporting other team members in defining and achieving and the company’s public policy objectives and taking direct responsibility for a variety of projects related to those objectives.
The Manager will help to meet the growing need for engagement in the technology space. The Manager will further complement the skillsets we already have by providing more technical expertise with respect to a spectrum of policies prioritizing on, but not limited to carriage and network, media convergence, omnibus regulations like the Digital India Act & Data Protection. Other diverse areas like Payments, Competition, Content protection, taxation will also need to be proactively monitored and engaged in.
In general, the Manager will work with the team to write policy briefs, meet with policy makers, monitor legislative and regulatory initiatives, and communicate with stakeholders and partners. In many instances, the Manager will need to engage very proactively, making our case before draft laws are written. The Manager will also work internally with a very wide-spectrum of colleagues on the legal, technical, communications and engineering teams, to seek and provide sound advice. This will help the Manager provide risk-tolerant public policy context to assist business teams make good decisions. The Manager will also work towards proactively establishing, deepening relationships with relevant policymakers, influencers and advocates- in each of the priority areas.
The Manager’s role will stretch to technology public policy issues in South Asia, along with India.
Qualifications:
- The candidate should have at least 10 years of public policy experience, which could include working for a company, government agency, or non-governmental agency. Candidates with prior successful experience of working with regulatory and legislative bodies, and advocacy organizations may also be considered.
- Academic qualifications and experience in Digital and Telecom domains will be preferred.
- An ideal candidate should bring knowledge & experience in the priority areas listed above. Existing external relationships with policymakers, influencers, and allies would be definitely beneficial.
