What is really important to them is someone who really understands the mainframe logic (not just COBOL programmer) and someone who can assume a position of authority. They need to be able to communicate effectivey with staff and the executive team. Consider this an executive/director level position with supervisory responsibilities Requirements – Education & Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field is required
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in mainframe technologies in an industry with exceptionally high availability expectations (i.e.: financial services, hospitals, aerospace, etc.) is required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years with direct management responsibilities of 10-30 personnel
- Experience managing 24 x 7 x 365 delivery of production services is preferred
- Experience managing high performance mission critical CICS systems
- In depth knowledge of UNIX System Services, especially as it impacts interaction with external software vendors.
- A skilled practitioner in the installation, and use of the following BROADCOM/Computer Associates (ACF2, CA-1, PDSMAN. JCLCHECK, CA AUDITOR) or BMC/Compuware (Abend-AID both batch and CICS, File-AID non DB2 and DB2, XPEDITOR TSO and CICS, XPEDITOR XCHANGE, STROBE, ISPW) products.
- Firsthand experience in the installation, implementation, and use of IBMs Z/OS System managed Storage (SMS) Automatic Class Selection (ACS) routines to effectively manage an environment of at least 10,000 DASD volumes
- Firsthand experience in the installation, implementation, and use of a multiple location grid of IBM 7760's virtual tape systems. This experience should include the interaction of the VTS systems with the tape management system CA-1.
- Must have experience with key products such as PDSMAN, EZYEDIT, Syncsort, and REXX.
- Experience in the delivery, installation, implementation/migration, maintenance of releases of the z/OS Operating System at the 2.1 level or above.
- Experience managing production batch processing for a financial institution is preferred
- Demonstrated experience administering business continuity plans and disaster recovery testing
- Solid understanding of industry best practices and standards
- Strong IT Technical knowledge, business acumen and process skills
- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise mainframe and enterprise job scheduling for large organizations
- Demonstrated ability to perform well in high pressure, high stress environment. Supervisory Responsibility

- This position will manage contractual performance of 3rd party resources
- Travel requirements are limited to various worksites in Maryland
Score: 0=None; 1=Low; 2=Average; 3=Excellent Essential Functions: - Lead the development and operation of mission critical z/OS mainframe and job scheduling technologies to support strategic objectives.
- Provide technical leadership and professional guidance to managers and staff to ensure long-term succession and development of the IT division.
- Identify important potential technologies and approaches to address current and future needs within the enterprise, evaluate their applicability and placement in mainframe services, and present recommendations to senior management
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure appropriate systems monitoring capabilities.
- Manage and mentor geographically dispersed IT teams. Coach them to identify, prioritize and resolve issues; provide regular mentoring to direct reports; create long term and short term goals for the team and monitor progress.
- Support division and corporate risk management objectives through proper review of project plans, change requests, operations procedures, and business continuity plans per established corporate and IT policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure performance and availability objectives and SLAs are satisfied; stay attuned to future technical capabilities and direction; and work continuously to increase operational efficiency.
- Prepare and manage the budget for Mainframe Services
- Provide production support for the enterprise environment, working in close collaboration with our 24×7 Operations.
- The primary purpose of this job is to lead engineering and delivery of mission critical mainframe technologies and enterprise job scheduling services in support of strategic objectives.
- Provides expert technical analysis for problem determination and coordination of mainframe systems and mainframe software problems, employs problem analysis and resolution techniques, and analyzes the most difficult problems and determines the most effective methods of resolution.
