Position: Senior Data Engineer – GCP (Data Lakehouse)
Location: Illinois (Hybrid)
Duration: Contract to Hire
Job Summary:
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to own, manage, and scale a newly built Data Lakehouse on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role requires strong technical leadership, deep GCP expertise, and the ability to guide architecture while mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, and manage large-scale automated data pipelines on GCP
Lead architectural decisions around data modeling, storage, and processing
Work extensively with BigQuery, Dataflow, and Dataproc
Ensure data governance, quality, lineage, and performance standards
Write and optimize complex SQL queries across relational databases
Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and enforce best practices
Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
Monitor, optimize, and control GCP infrastructure costs
Required Skills:
Strong experience building GCP-based Data Lakehouse environments
Hands-on with BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc
Strong SQL (Postgres / Oracle / MS-SQL)
Experience with Capella or MongoDB
Expertise in automated data pipelines and data governance
Proven ability to lead technically and make architectural decisions
Preferred Skills:
Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
Python (2–3 years)
NoSQL databases (3–4 years)
Experience mentoring teams or leading data initiatives
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
