JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Company’s business requires the safekeeping of valuable digital assets so our InfoSec and IT operations are paramount. This is a key technical role that will help build several data centers, corporate office environments, and cloud based software applications. This includes servers, storage, network, SaaS, monitoring, and everything in between. Environment is security first, redundant, able to scale up and out easily, and fully compliant with the highest standards like FedRAMP and NIST. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader and is seen as a subject matter expert in their field. The Senior Systems Engineer (Linux) will be part of a team working closely with both security and engineering groups and reporting to the VP of IT Operations.
Objectives:
• Work with the Head of IT Infrastructure to ensure appropriate staffing levels are met.
• Prioritize and coordinate Linux team staff engineering and operations activities.
• Collaborate on the design and building of the complete production IT infrastructure required to run a highly secure and highly available set of applications across multiple data centers.
• Collaborate on the design and building of the corporate IT infrastructure.
• Sharing knowledge with team members to help improve the team’s overall skills and performance.
• Adhere to quality standards and procedures to ensure the best specifications are always met and maintained.
• Stay on the forefront of emerging technologies in order to recommend new technology and ideas that improve the platform and efficiency.
• Collaborate with peers to generate realistic technical roadmaps across the whole organization.
• Collaborate with Engineering to design and implement the tools necessary for a secure and complete software development lifecycle.
• Identify tools needed for the NOC team to ensure proper monitoring and operation.
• Collaborate with the compliance team to provide required resources, appropriate documentation, and secure access during audits.
• Implement and maintain controls and monitoring procedures to ensure availability of critical systems, and minimal service interruptions.
• During the early days while building the team, be able to wear many hats, performing critical required duties as necessary.
• Determine when services should be outsourced in order to lower costs and/or free up internal team members to tackle tasks that give Protego a competitive advantage without losing required security or functionality. Lead the selection of, evaluation of, and transition to these third parties.
• Drive a collaborative culture that values technical depth, accountability, and customer service.
• Ability to share in on call rotation and work with remote locations around the world during their hours, as needed.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 13 years of experience in technology positions with an emphasis on infrastructure services.
• Knowledge of business concepts, and an understanding of the links between major business processes, products, systems, and networks.
• A track record of working collaboratively and productively with business partners.
• Deep knowledge of:
o Infrastructure Technologies and Practices
o Linux system administration
o System architecture
o Technology life cycle management
o IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service: private cloud)
o Storage (Hyperconverged, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, SAN’s)
o Infrastructure and technology-based security practices
o Application and infrastructure monitoring
o Virtualization (VMware)
o Data center technology
o High-availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity
o Data Center scalability concepts
o Corporate and branch office endpoint management
• Experience and understanding of the following technologies is desirable:
o IaC (Infrastructure-as-Code)
o CaaS (Containers-as-a-Service)
o PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service)
o Container Orchestration (Kubernetes)
o Automated software-based infrastructure management (Ansible, Terraform)
o Continuous integration/delivery
o Backup strategies and software
o DevOps process and procedures
o Agile / Kanban
• Knowledge of the following is nice to have:
o Networking (Layers 2 & 3, WAN routing protocols, VLAN’s)
o Database technologies (Oracle / Postgres)
• Demonstrated administrative, financial, project management, and vendor management skills.
• Analytical and focused on continuous improvement.
• Sets and communicates priorities effectively; able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• A team-player able to support the broader enterprise while delivering upon specific project/line of business requirements.
