Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer with exceptional expertise in SQL development and optimization, and deep experience working with PostgreSQL and Snowflake databases. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, performance tuning, and reliability of data platforms while ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and strong access controls.
This role requires hands-on technical leadership, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to design scalable, secure, and resilient data systems.
Key Responsibilities
SQL & Database Engineering
- Design, write, analyze, and maintain complex SQL queries for analytics and data processing.
- Optimize and tune SQL queries for performance and scalability.
- Create and manage views, materialized views, indexes, and database objects.
- Perform deep-dive query execution analysis and troubleshooting.
- Ensure SQL code follows best practices for performance, readability, and maintainability.
- Work extensively with PostgreSQL and Snowflake, including:
- Schema design and data modeling
- Performance tuning and cost optimization
- Query optimization and workload management
- Lead database design decisions and guide best practices across teams.
- Design and manage clustered environments with High Availability (HA).
- Define and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
- Establish and monitor RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective).
- Participate in DR testing, failover planning, and system resilience improvements.
- Implement and manage RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) for databases.
- Ensure data security, access control, and compliance with internal standards.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams on audits and reviews.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong expertise in SQL:
- Writing advanced queries
- Query optimization and tuning
- Indexing strategies and execution plan analysis
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
- Solid understanding of:
- Database performance tuning
- Views, indexes, partitions, and query optimization techniques
- Experience designing and supporting HA and DR architectures.
- Strong knowledge of RBAC, database security, and access control.
- Practical experience defining and meeting RTO and RPO requirements.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and technical leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading or mentoring data engineering teams.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with data warehousing, analytics platforms, or ETL pipelines.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools for databases.
