Senior Java / Spring Boot Backend Developer — Cloud API Platform 

Location: St. Louis MO (Onsite)  

Rate- $65/hr on c2c

About the role

We are building an API Marketplace that is a scalable, secure, cloud-native system on AWS. You will design and build deployable Java/Spring Boot microservices behind a hardened API gateway, integrate with downstream partner systems, and help deliver a phased cutover from a transitional bypass path to the full platform. You will work directly under a Senior Technical Architect on a system where security, failure isolation, and billing accuracy are non-negotiable.

What you’ll do
Design and build independently deployable Spring Boot microservices (order, service-assignment, activation, billing, partner-integration) on AWS ECS Fargate.
Implement resilient service-to-service and partner integrations using circuit breakers, bulkheads, timeouts, and idempotency (Resilience4j).
Model and evolve the property-to-service assignment schema on Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL) with versioned migrations (Flyway/Liquibase) and RDS Proxy connection pooling.
Build synchronous orchestration flows and asynchronous, compensating provisioning workflows (Saga pattern; AWS Eventbridge/ SQS).
Integrate securely with NGINX Red (ingress/security) and NGINX Blue (partner egress) gateways, including API-key/mTLS auth and the transitional bypass routing.
Ensure customer billing correctness for add-ons while default-package services remain zero-rated.
Instrument services with metrics, logging, and distributed tracing; participate in on-call and phased canary cutovers.
Required skills
5+ years Java, with strong Spring Boot / Spring Cloud experience.
Production AWS experience: ECS Fargate, RDS, IAM, VPC/subnets, Secrets Manager, SQS, CloudWatch.
RESTful API design and API-gateway patterns; hands-on NGINX configuration (reverse proxy, upstreams, TLS/mTLS, rate limiting).
Relational database design and performance tuning (PostgreSQL); migration tooling.
Resilience patterns (circuit breaker, bulkhead, retry, idempotency) and secure auth (API keys, OAuth2).
CI/CD, containerization (Docker), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
 

Nice to have
EventBridge / event-driven architectures.
ElastiCache/Redis;  OAuth2 authorization servers.
Telecom or billing-domain experience.
Observability stacks (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).
Hands-on experience with AI and AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot) to accelerate development is a definite advantage for this role.
What success looks like in 6 months
Your services run independently and fail without cascading; a partner outage degrades one flow, not the platform.
Assignment and billing data are accurate, auditable, and migration-safe.
Routes cut over from the bypass to the new platform with zero customer-visible downtime.
