Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer with in-depth knowledge of Java Spring Boot, Microservices, Apache Kafka, and PostgreSQL. The successful candidate will design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable microservices, with a focus on event-driven architecture. This position requires strong expertise in application development, data integration, CI/CD pipeline maintenance, and ensuring the dependability and scalability of key backend systems.

At least seven years’ experience in backend software development, specialising in high-volume, low-latency transaction systems.

Key Responsibilities

Build, develop, and secure robust and scalable microservices using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
Incorporate event-driven messaging with Apache Kafka producers and consumers.
Optimise database interactions, design efficient schemas, and fine-tune queries for PostgreSQL to deliver high throughput and low latency.
Deploy and manage code with Azure DevOps.
Collaborate closely with product managers and other tech teams to define API agreements and support service integration.
Lead code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and enforce architectural standards and best practices.
Address and resolve complex production issues, emphasising system reliability, performance tuning, and error management.
 

Required Skills and Qualifications

Advanced proficiency in Java 17; significant hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Spring Boot (including Spring Data, Security, and Cloud).
Practical experience working with Apache Kafka for message queuing, stream processing, and event sourcing.
Strong knowledge of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL—covering advanced SQL optimization, schema migrations, and transaction handling.
Solid background in deploying code through Azure DevOps.
In-depth understanding of Microservices Architecture, RESTful API design, and inter-service communication.
Familiarity with Docker or similar containerization technologies.
Competence with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, and various integration testing approaches.
 

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

Exposure to additional cloud platforms like AWS or GCP and their managed services.
Understanding of NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) for caching or specialized cases.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Data Dog.
Professional certifications in Java/Spring or cloud technologies (e.g., Azure Developer Associate).
