Role: Oracle Postgres DBA
Location: Tampa, FL (Onsite work)
Duration: 12+ Months
We are seeking an experienced Oracle PostgreSQL DBA with strong expertise in Oracle database administration, PostgreSQL migration, database performance tuning, and application modernization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting Oracle environments and migrating legacy Oracle-based applications to modern PostgreSQL platforms.
The candidate should be comfortable working closely with application development teams and should have a good understanding of application architecture, database performance, migration strategies, and production support. Some experience with Java applications is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Perform database administration, maintenance, monitoring, and production support for Oracle and PostgreSQL environments.
Provide expert-level Oracle DBA support, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backup/recovery, security, and troubleshooting.
Design and execute migration strategies from legacy Oracle applications to PostgreSQL-based applications.
Analyze existing Oracle databases and applications to identify compatibility issues and migration requirements.
Perform database schema conversion, SQL conversion, data migration, validation, and reconciliation between Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues across development, test, and production environments.
Conduct SQL query tuning, execution-plan analysis, indexing, partitioning, statistics management, and database optimization.
Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance.
Develop and maintain backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
Support database upgrades, patching, configuration changes, and environment refreshes.
Collaborate with application developers to optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, and application/database interactions.
Analyze legacy application dependencies and recommend appropriate PostgreSQL solutions.
Support application modernization initiatives involving migration from Oracle to PostgreSQL.
Work with Java/application development teams to troubleshoot database connectivity, SQL, transaction, and performance issues.
Create technical documentation covering database architecture, migration procedures, operational processes, and troubleshooting.
Participate in production deployments, incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
Ensure database environments meet organizational security, availability, performance, and compliance requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA.
5+ years of experience in database performance tuning for existing applications.
5+ years of experience migrating legacy applications from Oracle to PostgreSQL.
Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration.
Strong understanding of Oracle database architecture and administration.
Experience with Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration planning and execution.
Strong SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with query optimization and performance tuning.
Strong knowledge of database indexing, partitioning, statistics, execution plans, and optimization techniques.
Experience with database backup, recovery, replication, and high availability.
Experience troubleshooting production database issues and performance bottlenecks.
Ability to work with application teams during database migration and modernization projects.
Java experience is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration tools and utilities.
Experience with large-scale database migration projects.
Experience analyzing and converting Oracle-specific SQL, PL/SQL, functions, procedures, triggers, and database objects to PostgreSQL equivalents.
Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring and performance tools.
Understanding of Java/JDBC database connectivity.
Experience working in Agile development environments.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
