Job Title: DB2 Administrator
Location: Chicago, IL Onsite
Key Responsibilities:
DB2 Database Management:Install, configure, and maintain DB2 database servers.
Monitor and optimize database performance.
Implement database upgrades and patches.
Design and implement backup and recovery processes for databases.
Database Security:Implement data security policies.
Manage user roles and permissions.
Protect sensitive data within the database.
Troubleshooting and Support:Diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
Resolve errors in the DB2 environment and address performance issues.
Provide incident management and user support.
Database Optimization:Perform query optimization and database indexing.
Optimize database schema and table structures.
Manage disk space and memory usage efficiently.
Replication and Clustering:Configure and manage DB2 replication and high availability features.
Implement DB2 clustering and disaster recovery procedures.
Monitoring and Reporting:Continuously monitor database performance.
Set up automated alerts and reports to track system health.
Provide reporting on database usage statistics and resource consumption.
Data Migration and Upgrades:Develop and execute data migration plans (e.g., version upgrades, platform migrations).
Perform data transfer and synchronization across different environments.
Collaboration and Documentation:Collaborate with development and IT teams for database-related tasks.
Maintain proper documentation for DB2 database systems.
Prepare disaster recovery and backup documentation.
Skills Required:
Strong knowledge of DB2 database architecture and administration.
Experience with DB2 on z/OS, LUW (Linux, UNIX, Windows), or both.
SQL and scripting skills for query optimization and automation.
Performance tuning, backup, and recovery skills.
Familiarity with DB2 tools (e.g., DB2 Control Center, DB2 Command Line Processor).
Strong problem-solving skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
Knowledge of database security and compliance standards.
Experience with DB2 replication, clustering, and high availability setups.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Relevant DB2 certification (IBM Certified Database Administrator for DB2) is a plus.
3-5 years of experience as a DB2 Administrator or in a similar database management role.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Attention to detail and proactive attitude toward problem resolution.
