Job description :

 

  • Accept full authority to take any necessary action to maintain overall safe practices and procedures, including the authority to cease an unsafe operating procedure.
  • Liaise with technicians to ensure all field activities are conducted according to company environment, health and safety policies and legislation requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with safety and fire regulations and any other provincial or federal regulations.
  • Maintain and present safety procedures and policies for existing employees and visitors as required.
  • Provide necessary training, leadership, organization, and control to meet the company’s goal of zero incidents.
  • Investigate incidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and employees .
  • Recommend and implement corrective action plans.
  • Enhance safety practices, policies and plans of the company.
  • Ensure each level of management is properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies .
  • Coordinate health and safety supplies by ensuring appropriate supplies are identified and purchased in a timely and cost-effective manner .
  • Ensure proper training and allocation of PPE to workers.
  • Monitor usage of supplies and identify inappropriate use and respond accordingly.
  • Monitor safety performance of each worker.
  • Administer Silent-Aire’s corrective discipline for safety violations .
  • Monitor and measure effectiveness of all safety programs and documentation required as part of compliance with National Safety Code .
  • Work closely with the joint health and safety committee to ensure safety and compliance is observed at all levels .
  • Work closely with the Safety Administration Manager to develop manuals, policies, and procedures for training and safe work practices to be implemented.
  • Conduct effective job hazard and ergonomics analysis of the workplace and for all work centers, including capturing photos of non-compliances.
  • Conduct incident investigations as necessary to assist with liability determination and causation, including resolution of open claims.
  • File request for incident evaluations, ensuring unpreventable accidents are recorded as such wherever applicable .
  • Follow up on all safety points to ensure unsafe matters are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner .
  • Observe all company rules, policies and procedure with regards to quality control, Occupational Health and Safety, etc.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Required

  • Degree (B.A., B.S., A.A.S) or Occupational Health and Safety certificate (CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST)
  • Familiar with OSHA/ANSI construction legislation.
  • 3-5 years experience in a EHS role.
  • Valid State Operators License
  • Fall Protection Certified
  • Confined Space Certified
  • LOTO Certified

Considerations

  • Authorized OSHA 500 Trainer OR OSHA 501 Trainer General Industry
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with employees, other departments, supervisors and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with incident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis is preferred.
  • Diplomatic with strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to health and safety.
  • Understanding of current legislation, Codes of Practice and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations
  • Knowledge of current employment law matters and safety regulations.
  • Experience in the gathering and compilation of data, and preparation of reports.
  • Inductive reasoning to create workplace safety resolutions.
  • First Aid responder certificate is an asset.
  • Ability to identify developmental needs of employees and to provide coaching, mentoring, and other help.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
  • Presentation, written, and verbal skills.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail required.
