Job Description:
The DevOps Engineer II is responsible for support, maintenance, configuration, debugging, testing, and deployment of the DevOps infrastructure, tools, and processes. The DevOps Engineer II implements the systems to enable the continuous integration and deployment of infrastructure and applications. This includes ensuring systems are properly maintained so they are reliable, efficient,
and secure.
The DevOps Engineer II partners with cross-functional roles such as software engineering, infrastructure, and analytics to build and deliver standard automated processes used to develop and deploy integrated solutions for both on-premises and cloud systems in a consistent manner. The DevOps Engineer II is responsible for incorporating cybersecurity and software quality best practices into these processes to improve operational performance across all teams that utilize the capabilities.
As a key contributor, the DevOps Engineer II executes the high-quality delivery of these solutions in an established domain. They fulfill both team and project-level tasks, lead small to medium scale projects, and contribute creative solutions to challenges. The DevOps Engineer II is a reliable team member, mentoring junior staff and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the design of, as well as configure and maintain, infrastructure and/or cloud resources necessary to reliably host, run, and support applications through all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Create and maintain continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Write scripts and configurations to automate software testing, deployment, and maintenance in a manner consistent with software engineering best practices.
• Proactively monitor build and deployment pipelines and infrastructure, apply patches, troubleshoot issues, and resolve errors.
• Automate infrastructure and/or cloud resource deployments and configuration using infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Work with engineering teams to create CI/CD pipelines for their applications and ensure code is properly integrated into the CI/CD pipelines.
• Configure and support development environments for consistent development processes across devices.
• Participate in the design of the version control system and configure it to align with software development life cycle (SDLC) and security policies and best practices.
• Automate security testing and vulnerability scanning and integrate it into the development process .
• Remediate findings from vulnerability scanning and penetration testing .
• Assist with training users on both new and existing functionality.
• Informally mentor other staff in DevOps concepts and processes.
• Work with peers and business partners to identify workflows or processes where automation can improve efficiency and or reduce costs.
• Leverage multivendor APIs and write scripts to create solutions to improve existing processes.
• Engage internal departments and third-party vendors for security and infrastructure support and best practices.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, identify the cause, determine possible resolutions, and remediate issues in existing applications.
• Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation to support applications, promptly responding to incident notifications
Required Skills:
Education Minimum Associate Degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field.
Two (2) years combination of relevant experience and education may be considered
in lieu of degree
Preferred Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
Work Experience Minimum
Demonstrated success using DevOps capabilities such as automated build, testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment processes
Demonstrated fluency in at least one scripting or programming language
Demonstrated success with version control systems such as Git
Demonstrated success administering Windows and/or Linux environments
Demonstrated success using modern API and other application integration technologies
Demonstrated success managing and executing small to medium scale projects
UW HEALTH POSITION DESCRIPTION
Preferred
5+ years of professional experience using DevOps capabilities such as automated build, testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment processes
Experience administering and deploying infrastructure and application resources in a cloud platform such as Azure
Experience administering and maintaining the GitHub platform, including GitHub
Advanced Security
Experience creating CI/CD pipelines using YAML
Experience implementing automated software testing and code analysis tools and processes
Experience with configuration management and orchestration technologies
Experience with container systems such as Docker
Experience configuring and supporting secure web server and application architecture on Windows and/or Linux
Experience successfully leading people and/or projects in an environment using modern DevOps processes
Licenses & Certifications:
Microsoft Azure or AWS Administrator, Developer, DevOps, or related certifications
ITIL Foundation or related certifications
