Overview
- The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking a qualified Oracle Performance Tuning Database Administrator to provide services on behalf of the Technology Services, Technology Infrastructure Services department.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze Oracle 19c database workloads, focusing on I/O-intensive SQL queries and large tables.
- Review execution plans, table/index statistics, and storage usage.
- Identify performance bottlenecks caused by full table scans, large table joins, and high-latency disk operations.
- Identify large tables suitable for partitioning based on size, access patterns, and business logic.
- Collaborate with application and development teams to design optimal partitioning schemes (e.g., range, list, interval, composite).
- Implement table partitioning with minimal application impact.
- Refactor queries to leverage partition pruning and parallelism.
- Assess current compression usage and storage overhead on target tables and indexes.
- Identify candidate tables and LOBs for Advanced Row, OLTP Table, and Hybrid Columnar Compression.
- Implement Oracle Advanced Compression for high I/O activity tables and indexes.
- Validate data integrity, query performance, and space savings.
- Configure compression-aware statistics collection and tuning processes.
- Conduct baseline and post-implementation performance testing using representative workloads.
- Use tools like SQL Monitor, AWR, ASH, and OEM to measure improvements in I/O latency, buffer cache usage, and CPU cost.
- Provide performance comparison reports with before/after metrics and analysis.
- Work with application developers and analysts to ensure compatibility of partitioning and compression strategies with existing code.
- Assist in SQL tuning and refactoring efforts post-implementation.
- Deliver detailed documentation on partitioning and compression configurations.
- Provide guidelines for future partition maintenance, statistics collection, and compression-aware indexing.
- Conduct handover and knowledge transfer sessions with internal DBA and development teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator with expertise in Oracle 19c in a multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB).
- Proven experience performing hardware refreshes, including database migration and reconfiguration across environments.
- Experience implementing Oracle DataGuard configuration using Active DataGuard and Physical Standby.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), including upgrades and configuration (e.g., OEM 24AI or similar versions).
- Experience configuring Active Directory (AD) Authentication for Oracle databases using tools like Oracle Directory Services or Kerberos.
- Strong skills in performance monitoring and troubleshooting using AWR/ASH reports, SQL tuning, and diagnostics tools.
- Solid understanding of Oracle backup and recovery (RMAN/Data Pump), patching, and high availability configurations (e.g., Data Guard, RAC is a plus).
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting and automation tools.
- Standard work hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Pacific Time).
- Weekend availability may be requested based on project needs.
- Actual schedule may be adjusted based on project requirements.
