Role Overview:
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in migrating our ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise environment to AWS, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and long-term sustainability. You will architect, implement, and maintain enterprise-scale ArcGIS platforms in a cloud-first model. This role requires hands-on technical skills, cloud migration experience, and the ability to guide cross-functional teams through a complex transformation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the migration of on-premises ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise environments to AWS, including assessment, planning, execution, and optimization.
- Design and deploy secure, scalable ArcGIS Enterprise solutions on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, EFS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.).
- Modernize existing infrastructure by leveraging cloud-native architectures, automation, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Collaborate with GIS teams to ensure smooth transition of services, maps, and data to the cloud.
- Implement monitoring, performance tuning, and cost-optimization strategies for ArcGIS in AWS.
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and disaster recovery standards throughout the migration and ongoing operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud and application issues across infrastructure and platform layers.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide support for critical ArcGIS Enterprise and team-supported platform issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices for cloud adoption and platform engineering.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a Platform, Systems, or DevOps Engineer.
- Strong expertise with ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise (Server, Portal, Data Store, Web Adaptor) in both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Proven track record leading cloud migration projects (preferably ArcGIS or other large enterprise platforms).
- Advanced knowledge of Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu).
- Hands-on expertise with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, CloudFormation).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS) a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Willingness and availability to provide on-call support as part of a rotation.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience integrating ArcGIS with AWS-native services and external applications.
- Knowledge of cloud migration frameworks and best practices (e.g., AWS Migration Hub, Application Migration Service).
- Background in geospatial data management, performance tuning, and optimization for cloud-based workloads.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- AWS Certification (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer) highly preferred.
