2. Additional technical skills
Look for experience with:
• Mobile: React Native, Swift, Kotlin, Android SDK, iOS SDK.
• Frontend: React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript.
• Architecture: Brownfield Migration, Native Module Bridging, MVVM, Clean Architecture.
• State Management: Redux, MobX, React Query, Context API.
• CI/CD: Fastlane, Bitrise, Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
• Monitoring: Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, New Relic.

3. Leadership skills
The candidate should demonstrate:
• Engineering Manager / Frontend Engineering Manager experience.
• Managed mobile and web engineering teams.
• Architecture and technical decision-making.
• Team mentoring, hiring and performance management.
• Sprint planning and delivery ownership.

4. Ideal candidate profile
Best-fit candidate
Someone with:
• 8–12+ years overall software development experience.
• 3+ years React Native hands-on experience.
• Strong Next.js and React production experience.
• Both native iOS and Android exposure.
• 2+ years Engineering Manager / Technical Lead experience.
• Experience migrating native applications to React Native.

Important: Don’t shortlist someone who is purely an Android Engineering Manager or purely a React.js Web Engineering Manager. The client needs someone who understands mobile and web platforms together.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of frontend engineers working across Android, iOS, React Native, and Next.js.
• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for migrating legacy native mobile applications (Android/Kotlin/Java and iOS/Swift/Objective-C) into a unified React Native codebase, preferably using an incremental brownfield approach.
• Oversee the Next.js web frontend, including architecture decisions involving server-side rendering, static generation, client-side rendering, routing, data fetching, and web performance.
• Drive code and design-system sharing between React Native and Next.js where appropriate, including shared TypeScript business logic, API clients, design tokens, and component patterns.
• Define and enforce best practices for incremental migration while minimizing disruption to existing application functionality, performance, and release schedules.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineering teams to align technical execution with business and user experience goals.
• Establish CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and code quality standards for hybrid native/React Native applications and Next.js web applications.
• Drive decisions on native module bridging, third-party library evaluation, and platform-specific technical challenges during migration.
• Manage sprint planning, technical estimations, and delivery timelines across mobile and web initiatives.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance on architecture, performance optimization, and application stability.
• Oversee native-to-React Native integration, including navigation bridging, TurboModules/JSI, and lifecycle handoff.
• Own production monitoring, crash analytics, and performance metrics, including App Store and Play Store ratings, crash-free rates, mobile load times, Core Web Vitals, SEO health, and web performance.
• Support hiring, onboarding, and career development of mobile and web engineers.
• Stay current with Android/iOS platform updates, React Native and Next.js releases, and developments across the React ecosystem.

Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience in mobile/frontend software development, with at least 2 years in a people management or technical leadership role.
• 3+ years of deep, recent hands-on React Native experience, including production applications at consumer scale.
• Strong working knowledge of native Android development (Kotlin/Java) and native iOS development (Swift/Objective-C).
• Hands-on production experience with Next.js and React for web applications, including server-side rendering or static generation, routing, data fetching, and deployment.
• Strong TypeScript skills across mobile and web codebases.
• Solid understanding of React Native architecture, native module bridging, and hybrid application performance.
• Familiarity with native module/bridge and TurboModule/JSI patterns.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD tools such as Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• Experience with web deployment pipelines such as Vercel, AWS, or Azure.
• Familiarity with Apple App Store and Google Play Console release processes.
• Strong understanding of mobile application architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, MVP, MVC, Clean Architecture) and state management tools such as Redux, MobX, Context API, and React Query.
• Experience with performance profiling, crash reporting, and monitoring tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, and New Relic.
• Familiarity with web performance tools such as Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience leading or executing brownfield migrations by integrating React Native into existing native mobile applications.
• Experience defining phased/incremental migration strategies, including screen-by-screen or module-by-module rollouts.
• Experience working in large-scale enterprise or consumer-facing mobile and web environments.
• Experience sharing code, design systems, or monorepo tooling across React Native and Next.js, such as Nx, Turborepo, or shared component libraries.
• Familiarity with Next.js App Router, React Server Components, and SEO best practices.
• Familiarity with GraphQL/REST API integration and mobile/web security best practices.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Detox, XCTest, Espresso, Jest, Playwright, or Cypress.
• Exposure to WCAG accessibility standards for mobile and web applications.
• Experience managing distributed or hybrid engineering teams.
• Familiarity with native UI framework interoperability patterns, including UIKit and SwiftUI.
