Overview
Client is seeking a Lead Data Science Captain to provide technical leadership and hands-on execution within the RISE Product squad supporting Caremark rebate analytics initiatives.
This individual will partner with business and product leaders to address complex analytical challenges related to rebate exposure, financial risk identification, and optimization opportunities across the PBM business. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth, structured problem-solving skills, and a consultative approach to ambiguous business challenges.
This role will serve as the technical leader for the squad while remaining actively involved in analysis, solution design, and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead technical solution design for complex analytics initiatives
Translate business objectives into scalable analytical approaches
Define hypotheses, methodologies, and execution strategies for ambiguous business problems
Establish technical patterns and best practices for the squad
Identify risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations early in the delivery lifecycle
Data Science & Analytics
Design and execute advanced analytical models using Python and SQL
Conduct large-scale analysis of healthcare and PBM data
Build frameworks to quantify and prioritize rebate exposure opportunities
Develop statistical and data-driven approaches to solve complex business problems
Communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Squad Leadership
Mentor and support Data Scientists across the squad
Guide technical execution and analytical decision-making
Drive execution while ensuring quality and scalability
Collaborate with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and engineering partners
Promote innovation and continuous improvement within the team
Required Qualifications
7+ years of Data Science, Advanced Analytics, or Quantitative Modelling experience
Expert-level Python and SQL skills
PBM Experience
Experience solving complex analytical problems in highly ambiguous environments
Strong statistical analysis and experimentation background
Proven ability to move from business problem definition to technical solution design
Experience leading technical workstreams and influencing cross-functional teams
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Caremark experience
Healthcare analytics experience
Rebate analytics experience
Financial exposure or risk modelling experience
Consulting experience (Deloitte, Accenture, McKinsey, BCG, Slalom, etc.)
Product Development Methodology (PDM) experience
Experience leading data science initiatives within agile squad environment.
