Location: Danbury, CT (with travel to Torrington, CT)
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Rapid Response Design Engineer to support manufacturing by applying strong design knowledge and functional understanding of components and systems to quickly resolve production issues and maintain output in a 24/7 environment.
This role bridges design engineering and manufacturing execution, ensuring that production challenges are addressed with a deep understanding of design intent, functional requirements, and system performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design-Based Production Support
∙Apply design intent and specifications to resolve production challenges
∙Ensure manufacturing decisions meet functional requirements
Rapid Issue Resolution
∙Assess functional impact of deviations and nonconformances
∙Provide technically sound disposition recommendations
Alternate Design & Manufacturing Approaches
∙Evaluate alternate materials, tolerances, and fabrication methods
∙Balance manufacturability, performance, and reliability
Root Cause & Design Feedback
∙Participate in root cause investigations with focus on design drivers
∙Support design improvements and engineering changes
Cross-Functional Collaboration
∙Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Design, and Supply Chain teams
Required Qualifications
∙Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or related field
∙5–10 years of relevant experience supporting manufacturing from a design perspective
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
∙Must be able to work in the office environment
∙Combination of hands-on work and desk-based engineering tasks
∙Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, and other PPE as required.
∙Able to distinguish color.
∙Travel: occasional domestic travel (10% travel) – including travel between Torrington and Danbury, CT locations.
∙Willingness to support on-call rotation and off-shift coverage as needed
