Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Fortran Legacy Modernization Tech Lead to support the modernization of legacy Fortran applications into a modern Java-based architecture. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in analyzing and interpreting complex Fortran codebases, especially numerical and financial calculation systems, and translating legacy business logic into clear technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Analyze and document existing Fortran applications, including numerical routines and financial calculation engines.
Review and interpret legacy Fortran code (Fortran 77/90/95 and later), including fixed-form syntax.
Work closely with reverse engineering and modernization tools to validate translated logic and identify discrepancies or ambiguities.
Translate business rules and mathematical logic from legacy systems into detailed specifications for the Java development team.
Participate in architecture and design discussions to ensure the new Java-based solution accurately reflects legacy system behavior.
Identify and document undocumented assumptions within legacy applications, including:Hardcoded constants
Rounding conventions
Iteration limits
Implicit calculation behaviors
Support QA and UAT activities by clarifying expected legacy system behavior and assisting in issue resolution during modernization efforts.
Required Qualifications
3–10 years of professional software development experience with strong hands-on expertise in Fortran.
Experience working with Fortran 77, 90, 95, or later versions.
Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex numerical and legacy fixed-form Fortran code.
Excellent analytical, debugging, and documentation skills.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities in cross-functional environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working on legacy system modernization or migration projects.
Working knowledge of Java and modern application architectures.
Experience supporting financial systems or calculation-heavy applications is a plus.
