Required Skills & Experience
We are seeking a highly skilled scientific computing platform engineer to support and enhance a research data publishing platform used within scientific and HPC computing environments. The platform currently manages publication workflows from ASC/Cluster environments into AWS S3-backed storage with metadata management, enterprise access controls, and researcher-facing access workflows.
The ideal candidate will help stabilize and modernize the platform by automating manual processes, improving usability, strengthening operational reliability, and enabling scalable adoption across research teams.

Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Python scripting and CLI development
- Expertise with AWS S3 including:
- Bucket policies
- Object versioning
- Lifecycle management
- Access controls
- Experience with Linux systems and HPC/cluster computing environments
- Knowledge of IAM, Okta integration, Active Directory groups, and enterprise authentication models
- Experience with metadata management, validation, and structured data manifests
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, logging, and automation skills
- Experience building operationally supportable internal platforms/tools

Key Responsibilities
- Enhance and automate scientific data publishing workflows using Python
- Develop and maintain CLI tools and workflow automation utilities
- Manage AWS S3 storage architecture, permissions, versioning, and secure access patterns
- Integrate enterprise authentication and authorization mechanisms including IAM, Okta, and Active Directory groups
- Work within Linux and HPC/cluster environments utilizing shared filesystems and scientific computing infrastructure
- Design and improve metadata capture, validation, structured manifests, and data publishing standards
- Improve platform reliability through logging, debugging, monitoring, packaging, and operational hardening
- Collaborate with scientists and research users to convert manual workflows into scalable self-service solutions
- Create documentation, operational runbooks, and handoff materials for supportability
- Support secure, scalable, and maintainable scientific data management processes

Preferred Skills
- Web application or lightweight self-service portal development
- Familiarity with FAIR metadata principles, MMDS, scientific data cataloging, or research data management
- Experience supporting research/scientific computing organizations
- Knowledge of workflow automation and data publishing pipelines
- Experience documenting systems and creating operational support processes
