Job Overview:
We are supporting the development of a new data analytics platform focused on identifying fraud, waste, and abuse within Medicaid programs for a U.S. state. This platform aligns with new CMS regulations effective in 2026 and will analyze large‑scale provider and claims data to support compliance and oversight initiatives.
This role is a hands‑on Amazon Redshift Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will own the health, performance, security, and configuration of the Redshift environment, while also partnering closely with analytics and data teams. The position blends data platform engineering and SRE principles and will play a critical role standing up the platform quickly once the project is awarded.
Key Responsibilities
Amazon Redshift Platform Ownership
Design, configure, and administer Amazon Redshift clusters (RA3 and/or Redshift Serverless)
Optimize query performance, workload management (WLM), distribution styles, and sort keys
Monitor cluster health, performance, and cost efficiency
Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Data Engineering & Analytics Enablement
Support ingestion, transformation, and modeling of large‑scale healthcare / provider datasets
Partner with analysts and data scientists to enable compliance and fraud detection analytics
Tune and optimize complex SQL queries and data pipelines for scalability
Security, Privacy & Compliance
Ensure protection of sensitive and PII data
Implement role‑based access control, encryption, audit logging, and monitoring
Support regulatory compliance and audit readiness aligned with CMS and data privacy requirements
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
Own platform reliability, observability, and operational health
Build and maintain monitoring, logging, alerts, and automated remediation
Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis
Automate operational and maintenance tasks where possible
AWS Ecosystem Integration
Work within the broader AWS ecosystem (S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, CloudWatch)
Support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Ensure smooth integration between data, application, and cloud infrastructure layers
Required Qualifications
5+ years in data engineering, data platform, or cloud data infrastructure roles
Deep, hands‑on expertise with Amazon Redshift administration and optimization
Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning of complex queries
Experience operating data platforms in production environments
Experience with AWS services such as S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Glue
Strong understanding of data security, governance, and compliance concepts
Familiarity with SRE principles (reliability, monitoring, automation)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting healthcare, Medicaid, CMS, or other regulated initiatives
Experience with Redshift Spectrum or Redshift Serverless
Experience supporting government or public‑sector data platforms
Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or QuickSight)
