Position: UX Designer SME
Location: San Jose, CA
Contract

Mandatory Skills Figma
Our team is looking for a talented and experienced UX/Visual Design Expert to lead the design of a new application being built from scratch. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience from the ground up, establishing design processes, and creating a library of user-friendly and visually appealing UI components. You will be responsible for the entire design lifecycle, from concept to execution, ensuring a cohesive and user-centered design language.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end UX and visual design process for a new application.
  • Define and establish design processes, workflows, and best practices for a greenfield project.
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma.
  • Design and specify a comprehensive set of user-friendly UI components and patterns, forming the core of the application's design system.
  • Create high-fidelity visual designs, specifications, and style guides, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ensure all designs align with and thoughtfully extend Google's Material Design system (Material UI) principles and components.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers (including those working on the Java application backend/frontend), and UX Researchers to define problems, brainstorm solutions, and iterate on designs.
  • Plan and incorporate user research and feedback to validate and refine designs.
  • Present design work to stakeholders, clearly articulating design rationale and decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience, Visual Design, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ experience as a UX Designer, Visual Designer, Product Designer, or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work, particularly on projects built from the ground up. Candidates will be expected to present and discuss their portfolio during the interview process.
  • Demonstrated ability to define design processes and create scalable design systems or component libraries.
  • Expert proficiency in design and prototyping tools, particularly Figma.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, visual design, and accessibility best practices.
  • Experience working with and contributing to design systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing enterprise-level applications or complex systems from scratch.
  • Demonstrable experience applying Google's Material Design system in shipped products.
  • Previous experience working at Google or on Google products.
  • Familiarity with the technical constraints and possibilities of web applications (knowledge of Java application environments is a plus but not mandatory for the design role itself).
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Application Note:

  • Please be prepared to share and walk through 2-3 selected projects from your portfolio during the interview stage, ideally including examples of work on new products or design systems.
