A Drive Test Engineer is responsible for conducting RF drive tests to evaluate, troubleshoot, and optimize 4G/5G wireless network performance using tools such as XCAL, TEMS, and PCTEL scanners. They collect network data, validate KPIs, and support optimization teams with accurate reporting.
Key Responsibilities
– Perform RF drive tests and data collection using XCAL, TEMS, and PCTEL scanners.
– Set up drive test kits, scanners, test phones, and configure test scripts.
– Execute predefined test scenarios (e.g., voice, data, throughput, mobility).
– Conduct log file checks and ensure data integrity.
– Perform post‑processing and generate reports for RF optimization teams.
– Identify network issues such as call drops, low throughput, coverage gaps, and handover failures.
– Support 4G/5G network performance validation and benchmarking.
– Travel across assigned markets for field testing.
Daily Tasks of a Drive Test Engineer
– Prepare equipment: Configure XCAL, connect PCTEL scanner, set up test phones.
– Plan routes: Follow predefined drive routes for cluster testing or benchmarking.
– Conduct drive tests: Collect RF data for 2G/3G/4G/5G networks.
– Monitor KPIs in real time: RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, throughput, call setup success, handovers.
– Perform sanity checks: Validate logs, ensure no missing data.
– Post‑processing: Analyze logs, generate maps, and prepare summary reports.
– Coordinate with RF teams: Share findings, highlight issues, and recommend fixes.
– Travel as required: Field movement across circles/markets.
Required Skills & Qualifications
– Experience with XCAL, TEMS, AZQ, or similar drive test tools.
– Understanding of RF parameters for 2G/4G/5G.
– Ability to analyze logs and identify network issues.
– Engineering degree (ECE/Telecom/IT preferred).
– Physically fit for field work and frequent travel
