Overview
We are seeking a Senior UX Designer to support an IT team delivering web-based applications through Agile sprints. This role is research-driven and accessibility-first, responsible for designing intuitive, inclusive user experiences and producing end-to-end UX deliverables (research findings, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, prototypes, and handoff documentation). The designer will partner closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to iteratively refine workflows and ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA.
Key Responsibilities
Lead user research activities (interviews, surveys, usability testing) to gather insights and shape design direction
Design intuitive, accessible interfaces and workflows across digital platforms, aligned with brand and design standards
Create low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes to communicate interaction flows
Collaborate with product owners, developers, and stakeholders in an Agile environment; participate in standups, sprint reviews, and iterative design cycles
Ensure all deliverables meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements and inclusive/universal design principles
Present design concepts and rationale clearly to stakeholders; facilitate design reviews and incorporate feedback
Audit and update existing screens for brand consistency, accessibility, and usability improvements
Produce detailed handoff documentation (annotated specs, component usage, accessibility notes) for development implementation
Support knowledge transfer and ongoing improvements through documentation and walkthrough sessions
Provide regular status updates (progress, risks, next steps) aligned with sprint cadence
Sample Work Expectations (Typical Sprint Cadence)
Conduct 810 user interviews and 23 usability testing sessions per 2-week sprint
Design 20+ key screens/workflows for core application modules per milestone
Deliver wireframes hi-fi mockups interactive prototypes within 2-week iterations
Present bi-weekly design reviews to stakeholder groups (10+ attendees)
Hand off finalized prototypes with annotated specifications and accessibility guidance
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years experience in User Experience (UX) design of web-based applications
Four (4) years experience designing compliant webpages per accessibility standards WCAG 2.1 Level AA or higher
Five (5) years experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and mockups
Three (3) years experience in information architecture and design
Two (2) years experience in UX design in an Agile development environment
Strong portfolio demonstrating UX process, research, and accessible design outcomes
Desired Skills
Bachelors degree in UX Design, HumanComputer Interaction, or Graphic Design
Demonstrated experience applying accessibility, inclusive design, and universal design principles
User research, persona development, usability testing facilitation and analysis experience
Data-informed design using analytics/metrics
Responsive and adaptive design expertise
Strong visual/UI design and design system experience
Project/time management and stakeholder communication skills
Experience with mobile app UI/UX for ticketing or payment systems (preferred)
Familiarity with transit fare structures, ticket vending machines, and validation devices (preferred)
Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Blazor) to support collaboration with developers
Experience working in Figma (preferred)
UX certifications or training in accessibility standards and Agile methodologies
