Position: Informix Database Administration (DBMS)
Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite)
Duration: 6+ months
Description:
Ideally should not be more than 3-5)
• User, Objects and Security management as per Informix Best practices
• Hands-on experience in Statistics Management
• Ability to write efficient SQL & exposure to query tuning
• Good at Unix commands and basic scripting
• Hands-on experience using DSA
• Strong debugging skills
• Well versed with ticketing system/production change request/ Incident management
• Exposure to backup and restore process using Veritas netBackup(TARA)/netvault/Tivoli etc.
• Exposed in managing/maintaining lower environments like Development/QA boxes
• Manage and maintain Informix database systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Perform database tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting for Informix instances.
• Implement and monitor database backups, disaster recovery, and data security.
• Perform installations, upgrades, and patching of Informix database systems.
• Work with developers to optimize queries and resolve performance issues.
• Implement and maintain replication and clustering solutions in Informix.
• Provide technical support and documentation for database systems.
• Conduct database health checks and audits to ensure compliance with best practices.
Good-to-Have Working Knowledge of Oracle, DB2 LUW, SQL & Casandra
Responsibility of / Expectations from the Role
1 Install, configure, and maintain Informix DB clusters.
2 Working experience as Informix Database Administrator (DBA) on Unix Platforms
3 Manage and support 24×7 production as well as development databases to ensure maximum availability for various applications
4 Incumbent should perform DBA related tasks in key areas of System Administration, Database Administration, Backup, Archive & Restore Management, Performance Management & Reporting
5 Perform capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, Strategies defined for backup/recovery techniques, and problem determination and resolution.
6 Role involves direct interaction with customer/vendors hence good presentation and communication skill is a must
7 Should be a good team player and ability to mentor small groups
8 Monitor database performance and ensure high availability and security.
9 Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and upgrades.
10 Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
11 Optimize and tune database performance for maximum efficiency.
12 Implement and manage database security measures.
13 Collaborate with development and operations teams to design and implement database solutions.
14 Document database configurations, procedures, and policies.
15 Stay updated with the latest developments and best practices in Informix DB and database administration
16 Data Replication and High Availability: Configure and manage Informix DB replication strategies to ensure data availability and durability
17 Implement data replication across multiple data centers and handle replication challenges, such as consistency and latency
18 Security and Access Control: Implement and enforce database security measures, including authentication, authorization, and encryption
19 Set up user roles and permissions to control access to databases and data
20 Regularly review and update security configurations to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities
21 Database Monitoring and Alerting: Set up database monitoring tools to proactively identify performance issues, errors, and anomalies
22 Create and configure alerts to notify relevant teams of critical database events
23 Respond to database alerts and take appropriate actions to resolve issues
24 Tuning DB parameters.
25 Correlate related incidents together into a problem ticket and manage through the problem management process.
26 Use trend analysis to identify, detail, categorize, prioritize, and create Problems Management Records.
27 Restoration of database.
28 Handle DB performance related issues.
29 Manage all Service requests through the change management process.
30 Automate administration tasks where possible.
31 Manage and update all Database environment documentation.
32 Ensure DB server availability for business applications.
Education: At least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related field is required.
