Position: Senior Sybase Database Administrator Engineer
Location: Reston, VA/Plano, TX (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Duration: 12 Months
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Sybase Database Administrator Engineer with extensive experience in Sybase ASE and database automation within Linux and AWS cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Perform end-to-end Sybase Database Administration for Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) environments.
Support and manage Sybase databases hosted in Linux, on-premises, and AWS cloud environments.
Handle database upgrades, migrations, and replication setup across different Sybase versions.
Implement and maintain HA (High Availability), RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), and encryption mechanisms.
Troubleshoot complex issues and perform performance tuning and debugging.
Automate database administration functions such as backup, monitoring, and configuration using Shell scripting and Python.
Provide production support and ensure high database reliability and availability.
Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver database consulting and technical support services.
Manage database-related tasks through AutoSys scheduler and ensure smooth batch job operations.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of hands-on experience with Sybase ASE and Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
Proven experience in Linux environments and AWS cloud database hosting.
Strong background in database automation using Unix Shell scripting and Python.
Expertise in database migration, HA setup, replication, and performance optimization.
Experience with RBAC implementation and data encryption.
Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multitask and deliver under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical production databases.
Familiarity with SDLC methodologies and production support best practices.
Professional certifications related to Database Administration or Cloud Technologies are a plus.
