Description:
The Emission ETRM Business Analyst will serve as a critical liaison between trading, risk, operations, compliance, and IT teams within the utility sector. This role focuses on analysing, documenting, and supporting business processes related to environmental products, emissions trading, renewable energy credits (RECs), and regulatory compliance. The analyst will drive enhancements and integrations within the ETRM platform to ensure accurate position management, trade lifecycle processing, emissions reporting, and compliance with evolving environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering
- Partner with trading desks, risk managers, compliance, and back-office to gather, document, and validate business requirements for emissions and environmental trading workflows.
- Translate regulatory, risk, and business needs into functional/technical specifications for the ETRM system.
ETRM System Support & Enhancements
- Work with IT teams and vendors to configure, test, and enhance ETRM platforms for emission instruments (e.g., RECs, carbon allowances, offsets, RINs).
- Support trade lifecycle management (deal capture, confirmations, settlements, accounting, reporting) specific to environmental products.
- Ensure accurate data integration between ETRM, risk, accounting, and reporting systems.
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Support compliance teams in monitoring evolving regulations (EPA, RGGI, California Cap-and-Trade, etc.) and implement reporting solutions.
- Develop dashboards, data extracts, and reports for emissions exposure, credit positions, and compliance obligations.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Design and execute test plans for system enhancements, integrations, and releases.
- Support UAT and coordinate with business users for validation.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as a bridge between business and technical teams, ensuring alignment and clear communication of requirements, risks, and deliverables.
- Provide training and documentation for end-users on emissions trading workflows within the ETRM.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst within energy trading, utilities, or commodities.
- Hands-on experience with ETRM platforms (Allegro, Endur, Aligne, RightAngle, etc.), with a focus on environmental products.
- Strong knowledge of emissions trading products (carbon credits, allowances, offsets, RECs, RINs) and related compliance frameworks.
- Experience with regulatory regimes such as EPA, RGGI, California Cap-and-Trade, EU ETS.
- Understanding of front-, middle-, and back-office trading processes.
- Strong SQL/data analysis skills for validating trade data and reporting outputs.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in utility company trading operations (power, gas, renewables).
- Prior involvement in large-scale ETRM upgrades, migrations, or implementations.
- Familiarity with accounting/reporting systems integration.
- Knowledge of risk management practices (VaR, credit exposure, P&L attribution).
