🔧 About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead Systems Engineer with deep experience in Datadog, AWS, and ServiceNow integration to support a major transformation initiative. This is a hands-on engineering role with strategic influence, helping us drive observability and incident management maturity across cloud platforms.
📝 Note from Hiring Manager:
This is a straight contract role.
Preference for local candidates who can attend meetings in person when needed — but open to strong remote candidates who can support EST hours.
You’ll be working on Datadog in GovCloud (moving to commercial cloud) and supporting a large cloud migration for claims apps to AWS.
💼 Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end monitoring architecture using Datadog (Infra monitoring, APM, Log Mgmt, RUM, Security Monitoring).
Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, etc.).
Design dashboards, alerts, and custom metrics for observability in Datadog.
Integrate Datadog with ServiceNow (ITOM preferred) for incident automation, CMDB sync, and event correlation.
Guide junior engineers on observability and logging best practices.
Ensure monitoring integration within CI/CD pipelines.
Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for incident prevention.
Enforce Infrastructure as Code standards (Terraform, CloudFormation).
✅ Required Experience
5+ years in AWS (cloud operations, deployments, best practices).
3+ years in Datadog administration (dashboards, alerts, integrations).
2+ years integrating Datadog with ServiceNow.
Strong Linux skills – install, configure, and manage all things Datadog.
Scripting skills (Python, Bash, etc.).
Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud security.
Excellent problem-solving and team collaboration abilities.
🌟 Preferred Skills
Experience with Terraform / CloudFormation
AWS or ServiceNow certifications
Familiarity with Kubernetes, ELK stack, Fluentd
Experience with other observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus)
ServiceNow ITOM experience (Discovery, Event Mgmt, CMDB)
